for details of the first meeting of next year.
Highlights from the May
24, 2005 meeting, which featured outgoing Chapter Chairman Steve Rodgers
in the First (and perhaps last!) Annual “State of the Chapter” Address!
The Chapter has some significant achievements in the last 2 years:
- Membership grew from
42 in October of 2003 to 86 in February of 2005 for a 105% increase in 16
months.
- Meeting attendance
averaged 40 per meeting for the last year with a February attendance of 60.
- The Utah Chapter sponsored
the 2004 ISS&E in Long Beach, which was declared to be “the best
in years”:
- Set the all-time
record for number of papers (354 vs. the previous high of 323 at the 50th
Anniversary in 1994).
- Collocated with
the MIL17 Handbook Committee, bringing in new blood and synergy.
- Changed the schedule
to avoid travel on Mothers Day and allow exhibitors to set up on Monday
rather than the Friday before.
- The most profitable
ISS&E since 1992!
- Initiated the Utah
SAMPE Chapter web page.
- Received International
recognition for our accomplishments (see the News section of the web page).
Future goals include the
following:
- Chapter
membership of 120 by May 2006 by repeating membership drive as an annual event.
- Average meeting attendance
of 50 from October, 2005 to May, 2006 by continuing to build excitement with
a combination of interesting, informative speakers and fun networking events.
- Improve the Chapter
support of Education by emphasizing the benefits of membership and participation
to students and actively working to create student chapters.
- Continue to improve
the website to enhance communication within the Chapter and provide added
value.
- Improve the ratio of
Industry to Students.
- Hold the first Wasatch
Front Materials Expo (WFME) on January 18, 2006.
- The WFME will be
a mini exhibition to be held in Salt Lake City wherein Chapter sponsors
will have a tabletop exhibit.
- The entire technical
community of Utah will be invited to meet the suppliers and learn about
SAMPE.
- The sponsorship
money will provide free hors d’oeuvres and soft drinks for all members
and guests.
- There will be door
prizes for members and guests.
- There will be opportunities
for non-members to join SAMPE.
- The goal is a minimum
of 25 exhibitors and 125 attendees.
Come back next year and
experience the excitement!
